We love things that keep us and our homes clean. But keeping our favorite home appliances clean can be tricky. Keeping our appliances clean helps them run more efficiently and for longer, and helps us make sure we are getting the best clean possible. Here are 5 tips to keep your favorite home appliances clean!
Keeping your washing machine clean is important to get the cleanest clothes, and keep your machine running well for longer. Washing out your machine is easy, and you might already have everything you need in your pantry.
What you’ll need:
2 cups vinegar
½ cup baking soda
What to do:
Add 2 cups of vinegar into the detergent compartment
Run a normal wash cycle (without clothes!)
Add ½ a cup of baking soda in the drum of the machine
Run on normal wash cycle with hot water
Take a damp cloth and wipe out the drum
You’ve got a clean washer that will help keep your clothes even cleaner.
Like the washing machine, your dishwasher sometimes needs a little TLC. It’s easy for mildew or mold to build up, so it’s best to clean your machine regularly. A few tips for cleaning your machine:
Empty to drain of any food particles
Empty the dishwasher
Add a dishwasher cleaner and run a normal cycle
Dishwashers need to get a cleaning too, this can help
We’ve all had a clogged drain one time or another. Rather than filling your drain with a chemical cleaner, try a DIY Drain Cleaner with ingredients you might already have at home!
What you’ll need:
Boiling Water
Dish towel or washcloth
Baking Soda
Lemon Juice or Vinegar
What you’ll do:
Make sure your drain is empty of water
Pour ¼ - ½ cup of baking soda into the drain
Pour ¼ - ½ cup of vinegar or lemon juice into the drain (do so slowly so it doesn’t bubble over!)
Cover the drain with a cloth and let it sit for 15-20 minutes
Rinse the drain with boiling water, pour slowly until the mixture is rinsed out
Does your garbage disposal ever have lingering food smells? It happens, and luckily it’s pretty easy to clean!

Run some water in the sink
Cut up a lemon into quarters and drop them into the disposal
Let the disposable completely incinerate the lemons - rind and all
Lemons help clean the disposal blades and leave a fresh lemon scent behind.
Bathrooms are notoriously hard to clean, with grout and tight corners, it can be hard to find the right tools for the job. Luckily, you probably already have everything you need, here are some of our favorite bathroom cleaning tools:
T-shirt cleaning cloths - perfect for a streak-free glass or mirror clean up job
Grout toothbrush - your old tooth brush can have a second life, use it to get to the hard to reach bathroom areas!
Compostable sponge - opt for a plant-based, cellulose sponge instead of a traditional sponge, that can be made of plastic
